Every year, Art Matters brings on new members from Concordia University to help curate, organize and manage the year’s festival.


Art Matters offers several honorarium-based jobs to Concordia undergrads. Send us your artwork or apply to join the team!




DESCRIPTION

Exhibition Facilitators are tasked with curating and selecting the artwork that was submitted to us by artists. Facilitators are asked to organize their selection around their curatorial vision and ideas, creating a cohesive exhibition. Each Facilitator will be assigned a gallery/ venue as an exhibition space. Art Matters offers a $300 honorarium for this position.

PROFILE

Facilitators must be undergraduate students at Concordia University and be registered in a program within the Faculty of Fine Arts, International Students remaining eligible. They must be voting members of Art Matters. In other words, they cannot have opted-out of their Art Matters fee-levy. Previous experience in artistic direction, curation is not required. In fact, we welcome newcomers and beginners!

DESCRIPTION

Art Matters actively looks for artists experienced in all mediums including but not limited to: new media, video, performance, ceramics, painting, fibre and textile work. Artists of any level are encouraged to send us their work, especially those in their first year of art school!

DESCRIPTION

Technical Coordinators assist with the mounting and unmounting of artwork at galleries, working closely with the exhibition coordinator. Prior to the event, they will be asked to map out any technical needs and propose solutions. The contract for this position extends from March to April 2022, with an honorarium of $400.

PROFILE

Facilitators must be undergraduate students at Concordia University and be registered in a program within the Faculty of Fine Arts, International Students remaining eligible. They must be voting members of Art Matters. In other words, they cannot have opted-out of their Art Matters fee-levy.

DESCRIPTION

Photographers are an essential part of Art Matters, helping further enrich our archive and help carry on our legacy. In this role, you will be asked to help document this season’s artwork and take pictures of the galleries. The contract for this position extends from March to April 2022, with an honorarium of $600.

PROFILE

Photographers must be undergraduate students at Concordia University and be registered in a program within the Faculty of Fine Arts, International Students remaining eligible. They must be voting members of Art Matters. In other words, they cannot have opted-out of their Art Matters fee-levy.

* Candidates must be able to attend all events of the festival in the months of March and April.

* Experience in photographing events and documenting artwork is an asset.

NOTES *

We do not provide camera equipment - all photographers are expected to have their own gear.




DESCRIPTION

This coordinator is the leading force behind the festival’s budgets, permits, invoices, and bookkeeping. This coordinator:

- Develops and maintains the festival budget;",

- Oversees all expenditures and facilitates all payments of invoices, reimbursements of expenditures, payment of honoraria, and fee-levy opt-outs;

- Oversees and ensures the accessibility all documentation pertaining to the Festival’s governance alongside the board of directors, including by-laws, policy, and mandate;

- Tracks and files all financial transactions, bookkeeping;"

- Seeks and secures funding from internal sources, such as grants, with the support of the other coordinators (while keeping in mind that Art Matters is not eligible for external funding);

- Leads festival fundraising initiatives;

- Facilitates the organization of all board meetings, staff meetings, juries, and interviews;

- Ensures all material and equipment is in place for meetings as necessary;

- Facilitates and archives meeting minutes;

- Organizes and archives all Art Matters Festival documents from current and previous years;

- Books all necessary rooms for meetings and juries as well on-campus workshops and talks;",

- Oversees any use of liquor or food on- or off-campus in collaboration with the Exhibitions Coordinator, including obtaining or relaying permits;

DESCRIPTION

This coordinator is the leading force behind the shape of the festival, taking on tasks related to the programming of the festival and is the main point of contact for the festival’s exhibition facilitators and venues. This coordinator:

- Is responsible for locating and securing all festival venues and maintaining venue relations throughout the festival;

- Works collaboratively with the Outreach Coordinator to conceive the vision of the festival as well as its artistic identity;

- Works collaboratively with the Financial Coordinator to conceive the exhibitions budget and to negotiate accordingly when planning;

- Acts as the primary contact for all student exhibition facilitators, artists, and performers;

- Provides exhibition facilitators with all necessary venue information, i.e.: floor plans, set-up, takedown and clean-up schedules, coordination bars and merchandise tables, coordination of technicians;

- Leads the organization of the artist jury weekend as well as the curatorial workshop and technical training sessions;

- Liaises with any of the festival’s technician(s), volunteer coordinator(s) and driver(s);

- Creates contact databases for exhibition facilitators, artists and volunteers;

- Oversees any use of liquor or food (on or off-campus) in collaboration with the Administrative and Financial Coordinator, including obtaining or relaying permits;

- Files venue contracts for each exhibition;

- Is a reliable source of information and support for exhibition facilitators and other members of the Art Matters community (including venues, invited speakers, etc.);

- Continuously work towards building the reputation of Art Matters Festival within the Concordia and Montreal arts community.

Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate fine arts program at Concordia University.

DESCRIPTION

This coordinator ensures Art Matters is accessible to students and that the festival maintains visibility in the Montreal arts network. This coordinator:

- Generates interest in the festival by conceiving a public program plan;

- Organizes targeted internal (on-campus) and external outreach;

- Manages the primary Art Matters email and social media accounts at a quick pace;

- Cultivates relationships with media sources and arts networks;

- Creates all promotional releases;

- Cultivates relationships between Art Matters and Fine Arts student run organizations, and promotes student access to Art Matters festival;

- Collaborates closely with the festival’s graphic designer and web programmer on the visual identity and promotional materials of the festival;

- Manages the festival’s primary publication, its annual catalogue, in collaboration with the festival’s graphic designer;

- Manages the festival’s website in collaboration with the festival’s graphic designer and web programmer;

- Oversees any staff member related to documentation or publication, such as the festival’s web programmer(s), translator(s), copy editor(s), photographer(s)/videographer(s), press coordinator(s), poster pal(s), and graphic designer(s);

- Manages ongoing festival documentation and previous archives related to press and promotion;

- Appears at on-campus info sessions and orientation events, and seeks similar opportunities to promote the festival;
